SOME STUFF THAT HAS HAPPENED LATELY:

I suck at updating here.  Should just abandon it.  Except then I wouldn't have an outlet for posting random crap when I don't want to update LJ/really want-slash-care if anyone reads it.

4th of July: On the one hand, from our particular position on the beach, you could literally see 5 different sets of fireworks across the lake from various towns before & after our main show started, which helped pass the waiting time.  And our grand finale was the most amazing it's ever been, setting off such a huge volume of them at once that it literally felt like you were engulfed by thundering cannons (awesome experience, I recommend it), and the sky got so bright I had to look away.

On the other hand, I felt bad for the 4 or 5 dogs in our immediate area (WHY.  Why do people bring their pets to this?).  More to the point, our whole show was all of 12 minutes long.  What!  What is that!  Our shows always average at least 20!  The fireworks that started before ours went on longer!  LAME, WHITE BEAR.  LAME.  I blame the economy.

Garage Sale Finds: Slim pickings last week because of the holiday, and doesn't look like it'll be much better this week, but there was the annual tent sale going on in the Redeeming Love church parking lot, and that's usually good for some treasures.  Like these:

$1 - The Psychology of Childhood, Norsworthy & Whitley, (c) 1933 (this edition reprinted 1937).  Just because I wanted to see how much was different.  I'm already giggly about the mention of a possible assignment in which you observe how many things of interest there are for children in a given area, such as "open fruit stalls" or "moving-picture theaters."

50 cents - "Nyrex Slimview" Display Book?  Not sure what this thing is called - it's like a blank book the size of a 3-ring binder, but instead of pages it's got 22 of those plastic slipcovers that you can put pages inside. Oh!  Sort of like this, only white.  Whatever it is, it's exactly what I've been looking for to store some of my schoolwork in an easily-flip-through-able format.  And I didn't even know what I was looking for until I found it.

25 cents - ORIGINAL MY LITTLE PONY.  God!  Yes!  *whoops*  I KNEW I COULD DO IT, I knew if I dug through enough bins of McDonald's toys and stuffed animals and random action figures, I could find an errant pony thrown in!  She's a baby Christmas pony with 1984 stamped in her hoof, although that site says she was offered as a mail-away order in 1989.  Mane & tail are rougher than in that pic, but that's to be expected.  I'm just happy I found one!  :D

Furthermore, you should be very proud of how many Grand Champions I passed up (there were, like, 8 at no more than a dollar apiece), because they weren't super-especially-pretty and all of mine are in a box anyway; they're not a collecting priority.  Also cute stuffed animals that I passed on, for the same reason - although I was really glad to see this huge, oversized yellow Lab later being bought by the person ahead of me in line.  He found a good home within the first hour of the sale, yay!

Baking:
Even though it's been fairly hot (albeit cooler today), I have a sudden urge to bake, even though I haven't done it in, oh, about 2 years.  Debating between the classic chocolate chip cookies, the brownies The Office ruined for me but for which I'm maybe slowly getting my desire back if they're not frosted, the simple lemon bars, the comfy banana bread, and my wild exotics, snickerdoodles or gingersnaps.

Or something new!  Seriously, I've been all over the internet trying to pick a new recipe that's simple but good.  I asked LJ, but all they did was suggest "brownies with chocolate chip cookies inside," seriously, and now I can't stop thinking about that...distract me!  With less wild ideas!
